Are you feeling the volunteering buzz after the Big Give, wanting to escape the flatmates for a weekend, or just want to see a little bit more of NZ? Whatever the reason, we’d love to have you come away with SVA for a fun-filled weekend volunteering in the picturesque town of Hanmer Springs. We’ve got some pretty epic projects lined up to help those in Hanmer and the surrounding Hurunui district. If the volunteering warm fuzzies are not enough to entice you, then rest assured the social aspect of the weekend will not be lacking. You’ll even have the chance to take a dip in the hot pools that the town is named after. We’re already looking forward to seeing you there!
Tickets are up on dash tickets and are LIVE NOW! Keep up with the details on our app and the facebook event.
One of the things we here at the SVA are trying to do this year is to let you guys, the volunteers, know a little bit more about who you’re helping out, why you’re helping them, and what the lasting effect of your efforts will be.
So, in preparation for this weekend, we thought we’d run through some of the projects we’ve got lined up for you guys!
We’ll be staying at the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp for the weekend. As a charitable trust, the camp has been providing low-cost school camps and camps for people with disabilities as well as for families and groups for 38 years. Around half of you will be based here for the projects, where we’ll be repainting the on-site volunteer house, doing up the grounds and transforming the banks of the stream at the back of the camp.
The rest of you will be dotted around Hanmer and the surrounding community, carrying out some real cool projects to update and clean up some beautiful community parks, gardens and walking tracks.
The lasting effect of the work to be done this weekend will be to leave some beautiful spots looking stunning for future visitors to enjoy. The facilities we’ll help to maintain and revitalise will play host to locals and travelers to Hanmer from NZ and around the world for many years to come.
